Kenya population and Housing Census Analytical Report on Kenya Population Atlas 2009
Abstract
The Kenya Census Atlas presents graphic presentations of the spatial distribution of various population and housing indicators at the National, County, District and sub-location levels. The maps presented are accompanied by brief notes on the indicator being depicted. They are informative and play vital role in the quest to implementation of Vision 2030 and realization of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). The atlas will be of great assistance to researchers, policy makers and institutions. This Atlas provides information on the population of Kenya, depicting the different demographic and socio-economic characteristics reflecting various aspects of life. The Atlas is arranged in thirteen topical sections. Each section except section A illustrates a wide range of data obtained during the 2009 Kenya Population and Housing Census (KPHC). Various mapping techniques have been used in this Atlas to symbolize the maps. Techniques used to illustrate the various indicators were choropleth, dots and graduated symbols. The boundaries and units used in this Atlas are as they were in 2009 when there were 158 districts and 7,149 sub locations. The Atlas is in conformity with the new Constitution which created Counties as administrative/political units and endeavored to display indicators at the County level.
