Kenya 1999 Population and Housing Census-Analytical Report on Gender Dimensions
Abstract
This volume contains an analysis of the gender dimension of the various demographic and socioeconomic variables analyzed using the census data. The census questionnaire (see Appendix I) was used to collect information on the various demographic and socio-economic variables such as education and economic activity. As a new monograph in the census analytical series, it differs from the others because it touches on topics already analyzed in the other volumes but specifically highlights the gender issues emerging from the population and housing characteristics. Though theanalysis of the population contained in this volume is based on the 1999 Population and Housing Census, some supplementary information from other sources is also included to explain social concepts and situations in the country and to give a clearer picture of gender and development in Kenya.
