Kenya population and Housing Census Analytical Report on Mortality 2009

The 2009 Kenya Population and Housing Census (KPHC), whose theme was “Counting our People for Implementation of Vision 2030” was the fifth to be conducted in Kenya since independence, and the seventh in the country‟s history. The census was carried out on a de facto basis, with August 24th/25th as the reference night. The first series of the 2009 Census preliminary results were released in a set of four volumes, in August, 2010. This was achieved in a record time of one year after successful enumeration. This monograph is one among a set of thirteen, which are a culmination of an ambitious, synchronized and all-inclusive in-depth analysis process, addressing various topical areas regarding the demographic, social and economic profiles of the Kenyan population. The 2009 Census was accomplished through concerted effort of various organizations, institutions, Government Ministries and individuals who assisted in a variety of ways to prepare, collect, compile, process, analyze and publish the results. Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS), on behalf of the Government, takes this opportunity to thank all those who participated in the preparation of this monograph.
