Kenya Quarterly Gross Domestic Product Revision 2018

Abstract

The Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS) published data on the 2017 Gross Domestic Product in Economic Survey 2018 report that was launched in April 2018. Internal interrogation of the national accounts data after the release led to a review of the nominal gross domestic product for 2017.

Revision of statistics is a standard practice recognized internationally as a critical part of sound statistical production process. It entails modification of previously disseminated statistics usually due to; • need for updates as further data becomes available • major revisions required when new methods, definitions, techniques, systems, guidelines and classifications are implemented • errors and unforeseeable misrepresentations occurring in the production process
