Kenya Construction Input Price Index Second Quarter 2022
Abstract
The Kenya National Bureau of Statistics hereby releases Construction Input Price Indices (CIPI) for the second quarter of 2022. The CIPI comprises of the Building Cost Indices, Civil Engineering Cost Indices and the Overall Construction Cost Indices as shown in Tables 1, 2 and 3, respectively. The indices were generated from price data collected from a representative sample of outlets of construction inputs. The data is collected quarterly, with reference to the 15th day of the mid-month of the quarter. The Building Cost Index increased by 1.80 per cent from 112.05 in the first quarter of 2022 to 114.06 in the second quarter of 2022. This was mainly due to increases in the price of cement, glass and roofing materials in the second quarter of 2022. The Civil Engineering Cost Index increased by 1.31 per cent from 113.56 in the first quarter of 2022 to 115.05, in the period under review. Notably, the increase was attributed to the rise in the price of cement, concrete, asphalts and Dense Bitumen Macadam.
