Quarterly Labour Force Report 2021 Quarter 1

The Quarterly Labour Force Survey (QLFS) is a modular survey under the Kenya Continuous Household Survey Programme (KCHSP). The programme is designed to provide data on a wide range of socio-economic indicators on a quarterly and annual basis. Data collection for the KCHSP was undertaken for twelve days each month, alternating between the first twelve days for the first month and the last twelve for the subsequent month and vice versa. The QLFS module collected information about the Kenya labour market activities for the population aged 5 years and above. The survey results were uprated using estimation weights based on the 2019 Population and Housing census. This quarterly release analyses the labour market situation for the population aged 15 to 64 years. Topics covered include labour Force Participation Rates, Employment, Unemployment, Labour Underutilization, Youth Not in Education, Employment or Training (NEET) and Inactivity. The statistics are measured based on the labour force framework as guided by the International Labour Organization (ILO) standard for labour market statistics for international comparability. Indicators are compared between the current quarter and the corresponding quarter of the previous year and the immediate previous quarter. No adjustments are made for seasonality and therefore some of the variations may be due to seasonality factors. The QLFS report is released with a lag of two months. This report presents the results for the period January to March 2021.
